"Here is the November 15th Street ."  

Accesses to Blumenau - it is 45 km from BR-101 highway. The access is made by the BR-470 highway. There is an airport in the town and other 2 close to it: Aeroporto de Navegantes, 59 km away and Aeroporto Internacional Hercílio Luz, in Florianópolis,  130 km away.    

"This is Ponte de Ferro (Iron Bridge)."  

The city has that name thanks to a German doctor and philosopher who was the owner of the area, around 1850, and was called Dr. Blumenau. The guy was kind of a feudal master and who lived in his area had to know who was in charge.  

As time went by, Dr. Blumenau passed through financial difficulties and what was a small italian-Germanic colony changed in a city with considerable proportions. 

Attractions: 

Parque Ecológico Spitzkopf (Ecological park Spitzkopf) - Spitzkopf means "Sharp Head". This park has a natural swimming pool, cascades and nascents and several signaled trails, as the one that leads to the peak of the park, with 936 m of altitude. It is situated approximately 15 km from the center of Blumenau. 

"This is Castelinho Malwee (Malwee Castle)."  

Parque Horto Botânico Edith Gaertner (Edith Gaertner  Botanical Garden Park) - it hosts a small native forest and a mini-zoo. Also, Cemitério dos Gatos (Cat Cemetery) is there, because the former owner of the place, Edith Gaertner, raised a lot of cats there. Adress: Alameda Duque de Caxias, 78. 

Parque das nascentes (Park of the Nascents) - researches, ecoturismo and environmental education are developed there. It has 50 km of trails and roads and a great number of nascents. It is located 23 km from Blumenau downtown.

Parque Natural Municipal São Francisco de Assis (São Francisco de Assis Natural Municipal park) - it has a great number of cutia species, capybaras, birds, herons and other animals. It is part of the third largest area on continuous original Atlantic forest of the state. 

Vila Itoupava (Itoupava Village)- The neighborhood preserves the most authentic aspects of the german colonization. The houses maintain the German typical style as well as the gardens. It is 25 km from downtown. 

Locomotiva "Macuca" (Macuca Locomotive) - it was built in Germany and it arrived here with the first accessories that led off the works to the implantation of the railway Konder Square)Blumenau Hansa in the beginning of last century. It is at Praça Victor Konder (Victor Konder Square) , close to the City hall. 

Barco a Vapor Blumenau (Steamship Blumenau) - it is docked in Praça (square) Juscelino Kubicheski, known as "Prainha". This boat contributed, for many years, toBlumenau, receiving and exporting products by Porto de Itajaí (Itajaí Port), since 1895.

Morro do Aipim (Cassava Hill) - a panoramic view of the central area of the city can be appreciated from its top. 

November 15th Street - it is the main street of the city, with typical architecture, restaurants and stores.

Tips by GUSTAVO VIVACQUA

1. The best time to visit the city is in October, because of the Oktoberfest that is a very good festival.  

2. Taste, besides the German and Italian typical food, the duck with purple cabbage. 

3. Don't forget to go for a walk in the November 15th street . The architecture of the city is very cool.  

4. Visit Vila Itoupava, it is the "most German" part  of the city. Almost everybody speaks German over there.
