LODGING PORTUGUESE VERSION

"It's really difficult to climb up the cliffs."

This old fishermen village in Aracati was discovered for the tourism in the middle of the seventies, by a group of hippies.

"Canoa Quebrada is a city in the middle of the dunes."

Canoa quebrada is 160 Km from Fortaleza. With immense cliffs of compact sand in orange shades that provide a very different view, besides the clear waters and moonlit nights. From this silver phenomenon, arose the festival Canoa em Canto, that is accomplished annually in the last full moon of July.

"The means of transport here is the buggy (sand jeep)."

Despite the beach became a known tourist point still one can find deserted passages along CAnoa Quebrada. It is worthwhile to rent a bugue (jeep) and get to know the whole coast of the area and the dunes, true postcards of that piece of paradise in Brazilian soil.

"The beach can be seen from the top of the dunes."

In the central street that has the nickname of "BROADWAY", it is where the bars,  restaurants, lodgings, taverns, pizzerias, ice-cream parlors, laundries, etc. are. The great number of visitor during the summer justifies this whole infrastructure.

"There are enormous dunes here."

The tourist that comes to Canoa Quebrada and likes to take souvenirs for friends and relatives, won't have many problems because he can buy the local craft, which has as main workmanships the colored bottles with sand from the cliffs, another option is the so called mazes, traditional in Ceará coast that are of Arab origin.

Tips by GUSTAVO VIVACQUA

1. Take one day to sail in the rafts.

2. Ride on horses by the beaches and the deserted dunes is a good option.

3. Practise sandboard or esquibunda (butt ski) on the enormous dunes of Canoa Quebrada.

4. The main attractions are the bugue rides by the dunes of the beach, to admire the red cliffs and to dive in the calm and transparent waters of the beach.

5. Eat the seafood as lobsters, fish, rays, shrimps, oysters and crabs.

6. Spend the night on Broadway. The parties begin at 22 h and it only finishes when the sun rises. There are some bars with reggae, rock, blues and people of the whole world walking on their bare feet by the streets.

7. When the sunset begins, go running upward of a dune and thank to God for you being here at that moment.

8. "There is a bar at the edge of the beach with a lot of reggae and I consider the best point of Canoa, it is Freedom Bar. Also there happens Luals and a nice breeze coming from the sea. See ya! " tip from Robes Amarante
